The Chinese Crested dog is a hairless breed but a little known fact is that in one litter there can be fully coated puppies too. The fully coated Chinese Crested is called a powder puff. Both powder puffs and hairless can be born to a hairless female and hairless male. Powder puffs only are born to parents that are both powder puffs. As far as the hairless variety, most of their body has little to no fur. Their skin is very soft and lovely to touch. Many people that meet a Chinese Crested hairless dog for the first time will ask, "What does it feel like?" Can I touch it?" Some will comment rather rudely, "That's that skinless dog." I assure you that my Chinese Cresteds have skin and have beautiful long silky soft fur on their heads, tails, feet, and ears. Chinese Crested dogs are sometimes referred to by their owners as Cresties. Cresties are cute, small, fun, energetic, agile, obedient, playful, alert, smart, and action packed. They would be happy to curl up with you for a nap, take a brisk walk, or fetch a squeaky toy for a bit. Chinese Crested dogs often wear dog clothes. Yes they can be hairless which leaves them vulnerable in cold weather and in cold weather climates. They need their dog clothes. Chinese Crested dogs like to play in snow, but care should be taken. Some breeders live in climates where their Chinese Crested dogs need to go outside in the snow and they have no problems. Although a Chinese Crested that is used to California weather and ends up spending a few months in a cold climate with snow may return to California with sensitivity issues. They can live quite well in climates where it snows. Dog clothes help take the chill off. Chinese Crested dogs can be true hairless and have very little hair just on their feet, tails, and head. They can be very hairy with thick hair on heads, feet, and tails. The hairy hairless may have some hair that grows on their bodies ranging from thick to just peach fuzz. Whether your Chinese Crested has tons of hair of is very hairless they may at one time or another require dog clothes. Dog clothes that are soft, stretchy, warm, and easily put on on taken off your Chinese Crested dog are preferable. I have owned, shown, and raised Chinese Crested dogs for over 14 years and I have designed clothes specifically for Chinese Crested dogs. The dog clothes are soft fleece, open in front for the dog to go potty without removing the dog clothes, and offer some stretch in the fabric and design for comfort and these dog clothes have stretch cotton ribbed cuffs and collars. It is one thing to dress your Chinese Crested in store bought, knit, or scratchy ill fitting dog clothes dog clothes and quite another to dress them in warm fuzzy, soft, and comfortable jammies that are specifically designed. The dog clothes that I offer are the same ones that I have put on my own Chinese Crested dogs for warmth and comfort. They are easy to put on your Chinese Crested dog and easy to remove. Dog clothes should fit loosely yet stay on when your dog plays, runs, or sleeps. Chinese Crested dogs are fun loving, energetic, lively, obedient and playful. They can be trained for obedience. They are intelligent dogs that just happen to love their dog clothes. Often times I have had owners remark to me that their Chinese Crested dog readily waits for their dog clothes, pajamas, to be put on. Sometimes poking their head into the jammie as their owner dresses them. The dog clothes that I offer are one of a kind, hand constructed by me and specifically designed to fit the Chinese Crested dog. The dog clothes are sewn one at a time and constructed using soft fleece and stretch cotton ribbing for the cuffs and collar. The dog clothes are not mass produced and are limited to the supply I have at the time. At this time I am not able to produce a large quantity of dog clothes or take special orders.
